After a week of battling each other over the air on Adelaide’s MIX102.3 FM, Mark Aiston challenged John Riddell to a pro wrestling match that would take place at Rundle Mall, right in the heart of the City.
Explosive Pro Wrestling was invited to host the showdown between the two television personalities. Mark Aiston was backed by EPW-A wrestlers Jayson Cooper, Robby Heart, Greg Graham and The Golden Aztec while John Riddell was accompanied by his radio co-host Snowy Carter and wrestlers Hartley Jackson, Damian Slater, ‘Dirty’ Dick Donovan and Wreckin’ Ball Wilson.
Mark was dressed for the occasion donning traditional wrestling tights, while Riddell took the athletic route in a tracksuit. As the bell rang, the match got underway and both men didn’t really know what to do with each other. They circled the ring opposite each other, both looking for that first opportunity. Mark Aiston started doing a few rolls and played up to the crowd to get the support. Aiston climbed up to the top buckle and Riddell grabbed his foot, pulling him to the ground. Hartley then called Riddell over to their corner and handed him a steel chair. Jayson Cooper did the same for Aiston and the two were about to square off and hit each other. Snowy Carter then jumped in the ring and voiced his concern. He didn’t want to see either of his friends hurt, so he asked if they could settle their differences by an arm wrestle instead. A table was brought into the ring and the arm wrestle began. Aiston got the upper hand and almost had him beat, but Snowy jumped into the ring and helped Riddell win by pushing Aiston’s hand back.
Nick Savage called for Riddell to be disqualified, but Hartley Jackson rung the bell and told Jodie from Mix102.3 to announce Riddell as the winner.
Aiston protested the loss and wanted to see the decision reversed. Nick Savage tried to declare Aiston the winner, but before anything official could be announced, Hartley Jackson got on the megaphone and said that they won the arm wrestling challenge fair and square and that everyone watching in the Mall would back up that fact. To which they didn’t. He then went on to say that if they want to resolve this in another manner then Aiston and his four wrestlers can take on Riddell and his four wrestlers in a 10 man tag team match. Aiston talked to his team and they quickly agreed. John Riddell changed his mind and left the ring, but Snowy took his position.
Snowy and Aiston started off in the ring. As they were circling, Hartley distracted Aiston, giving Snowy the upper hand and he was able to ram Aiston’s head into the turn buckle. Snowy then tagged Jag. Jag pulled Aiston to the centre of the ring and was about to hit him when Aiston quickly slapped Jag in the face and crawled through his legs, tagging in Jayson Cooper from his team.
The action immediately picked up as Jag chopped Cooper and send him crashing to the mat after a vicious forearm. Cooper fought back, but was cut short with a Powerbomb reversal after a leapfrog attempt. Jag took Cooper to the corner and whipped him into the buckle, but Cooper fought back and hit a double knee backbreaker on Jag. Cooper then tagged in Robby Heart and hit a double team manoeuvre. Robby then hot a tilt a whirl headscissors nearly sending Jag to the outside. Robby picked up Jag, but was cut off with an eye rake to the face. Jag took Robby to the corner and tagged in Damian Slater. Robby and Slater fought back and fourth, but Slater finally got the upper hand and went up to the top rope. Robby knocked Slater off the top rope and gave him hurricanrana followed by a close pinfall. Robby tagged in The Golden Aztec who managed to hit Slater with a few quick moves, before Slater cut him short when he went for a rana attempt and was slammed to the mat. Slater tagged in Dick. Dick punished Aztec in the corner, but the Aztec managed to come back after hitting a Moonsault press off the ropes when Dick whipped him. Aztec tagged in Greg Graham. Graham hit a leg lariat on dick before dick came back with a back breaker. Dick tagged in his partner Ball and they delivered a double Suplex to Graham. As they went to whip graham off the ropes to deliver a double clothes line, Aztec made the tag and took down Dick and Balls with a springboard clothesline. Aztecs offence was short lived as the power of Balls was too much for him. Balls delivered a few hard chops in his corner as the team then took turns in beating him up and isolating the Aztec between tags. Hartley Jackson delivered a side breaker and Dick and Balls hit him with a double team slam. Both Dick and balls went to whip the Aztec into the corner, but it backfired as Balls was stopped doing a drop toe hold and fell into Dick’s private area. Aztec managed to make the tag to Greg Graham, while Balls got the tag to Hartley Jackson. Graham cleaned house on both Jag and Slater. Slater then managed to full nelson Graham and J-Rock climbed up onto the apron and threw powder to try and blind Graham, but Graham managed to duck in time and the power went straight into Slaters face. Referee Nick Savage checked on Slater as Jag snuck into the ring with a steel chair ready to hit Graham. Cooper rushed in and managed to get the chair off Jag then hit him over the head with it. Graham made the tag to Robby, who hit a massive top rope splash onto Jag. Graham and Cooper called for a ‘STACKS ON’ and everyone, including Mark Aiston, came into the ring and jumped on top of Jag for the 1-2-3 victory.
